A Little Bit

Can we talk a little bit

For a little bit

We’re engaged in conversation like we said “I do”

Feels like God blessed me like I said “ah choo”

Damn you’re so beautiful

Be well aware that I’m pursuing you

In hopes that we be caked up so I can call you my suzy q

Can we touch a little bit

For a little bit

Our bodies connected like the internet

I’m hoping you don’t log off because I’m not finished yet

You subscribe to my love like a membership

And you always sing up for every tender kiss

Thats why I feel like you’re my December wish

Can we make love a little bit

For a little bit

We melt with ecstasy like a party drug

Our tight embrace like a hearty hug

Her screams make it easy for the neighbors to target us

Yes, we’re both expressive lovers and its very obvious

And there’s no stopping us

So lets just live a little bit

For a little bit

Random Thought

They say you can learn a lot about somebody just by the company they keep

But then I realized that there isn’t nobody more important than me

Honestly all my selfish ways are about to hit its peak

Self-centered but just a touch

When it comes to any strings attached, I duck them like double dutch

I swear I’m not tripping anymore so more shuttle bus

I’ll just tell them my heart too cold to even cuddle up

Besides self-love is the best love

Then again, that kind of love could be the best drug

Making myself the best plug

See it’s all about me

And if not, then everything else is over my head like a tall balcony

Had to single myself out because less is more like a raw calorie

Seems like I’m careless whenever they care the most

I mean why lead somebody down that road when I barely coast

Plus, those problems I put in my rearview are still fairly close

Unapologetic like oh well

So, if your heart is your home, I’m a guest at mine like a hotel

And I don’t know the duration, there’s no tell

Therefore, please don’t ask why

Because like time, it’ll eventually just pass by

Maybe I’ll start seeing things clearer or fake it like a glass eye

But who knows maybe I’ll find a loophole this last try

Short Story #1 Chapter Three

Later that day the two were back upstairs trying to figure out their next move. Kimmie changed into the pants to see if they fit, and Cliff rifled through the tool bag. In the bag was several screwdrivers, different sized pliers and wrenches, a flashlight, masking tape and two different hammers. He whispered to himself, “all the things we can do with these”, as he smirked and laughed. Kimmie frantically cries out, “hey they fit, now we can go out!” “Okay so what does your plan say we do now”, Cliff yelled out. Kimmie ran over to him and replied, “well I say we go to a thrift store and get more clothes.” Cliff first shook his head and agreed but then asks, “and how are we gonna pay for the clothes?” Kimmie chuckled then replied, “we’re not gonna pay, we’ll just take.” Cliff retrieved the other pair of uniform pants and put them on. The two looked like coworkers of some sort, with blacks slacks and light blue shirts from the mental hospital.

They geared up to leave and go to the thrift store when Cliff noticed the Oasis name still on their shirts. He yelled out, “hey turn your shirt inside out to hide the hospital!” Kimmie quickly did as requested then grabbed the tool bag and emptied everything out. Cliff screamed out, “what the hell are you doing!?” She retorted, “I’m making more room so we can take more stuff with.” She then swung it over her shoulder like a purse and paraded around. They then headed for the back door and carefully left out. It was just getting dark out, so they went unnoticed as Cliff put the security gate back. Kimmie yells out, “hey this way, let’s just head through the alleyways its faster and less traffic.” Then the two walked off as if nothing was wrong with their heads but not to stand out.

About ten minutes and four blocks later he two found themselves around the corner form the thrift store. Kimmie huddled next to Cliff and whispered, “okay only things you need and no dumb shit, try to hide things in your shirt or pants if you can.” Cliff nodded his head and the two turned the corner and went inside the store. In the store there are several racks of clothes and accessories scattered throughout, with the checkout near the entrance/exit. There were no cameras or security being that it was a small store. They split up and started going through the racks unknown to the workers in the busy store. Kimmie swiftly put things in the tool bag without paying any attention to herself. Cliff was able to stuff a few things in his slacks before he began to look suspicious. He finds Kimmie and put the stuff he was hiding in the bag then walked off for more. They grabbed a few more things then met up and headed for the dress rooms in the back of the store. Kimmie rapidly started ripping off the price tags on all the stuff they were stealing as Cliff stood lookout. She then got settled and grabbed some clothes left in the dressing room. Cliff walked towards the door as he nonchalantly put the left clothes back on the rack. She meets up with Cliff at the front door then both leave without a clue of their thievery.

They casually retreated back around the corner and down the alley. Once they were at least a block away they picked up their pace and rushed back. When they got inside Kimmie threw the tool bag stuffed full of clothes on the floor as the two celebrated. Cliff pulled out more clothes he stuffed in his pants and Kimmie rifled through the bag. They began to thoroughly sort through their haul when it started to rain. Since some of the windows were busted the rainwater managed to find its way inside. Kimmie grabbed the bag and headed for the basement. Cliff followed then remembered the flashlight with the tools. He doubled back and grabbed the flashlight then met Kimmie by the door. He turned on the flashlight and to their surprise it worked, it was a weak light, but it worked, nonetheless.

They head towards the break room with Cliff leading the way with the flashlight. They settled inside on the floor as Cliff places the flashlight on the small bench like table in the center of the room shining up at the ceiling. The minimal light gave them enough to examine the clothes and kept them somewhat comfortable. Kimmie dumped out everything that was in the bag on the floor. A couple dresses, both men and women jeans and t-shirts, a couple hats, sunglasses and a huge bundle of socks for them both. Cliff threw the shirt and pair of jeans he had stuffed down on the floor as well. He then said, “we have enough clothes to go and do anything.” Kimmie followed up and said, “yeah we should be good, we just have to worry about how to eat.” Cliff chimed in, “well there’s always begging or eating on the street.” He started to laugh when Kimmie interrupted, “there’s no damn way I’m begging for anything, and I don’t each trash I’m not a damn dog! “Cliff slowly stopped laughing and said, “okay what then?!”

She took his hand and pulled him down to sit on the floor with her. She reached into her pants pocket and pulled out a little box. Cliff looked at the box and before he could ask Kimmie said, “I thought we’d get engaged so whatever we got through we do it together no matter what.” She opened the box and there was a set of cubic zirconia rings, one for him and one for her. Cliff shyly smirked and asked, “are you serious, are you trying to do a wedding, with a judge, or what?” Kimmie answered, “no, no nothing like that, it’s just between us, we can where these rings and stay loyal to each other forever, what do ya say?” He took the ring and said, “of course through death baby.” They both put on the rings, hugged then started to slowly dance around the flashlight. The two ended up falling asleep in each other arms on top of the stolen clothes.

The next day Kimmie woke Cliff up and said, “so I came up with an idea for food, but you won’t like it.” She continued, “so at any average to major hotel in the financial district holds meetings for like hundreds of people. Why can’t we sneak in on one of the meetings and take snacks, food or whatever they have. We can either stay for the meeting or leave at lunchtime, but we have to be there early to catch a crowd going inside the hotel.” Cliff sat up, absorbed all the information and said, “okay but how early are you talking and how far is the hotel?” Kimmie added, “the meetings usually start around eight or nine and it’s about a mile and a half from here.” Cliff responded, “okay that doesn’t sound too bad, when did you wanna do this?” She replied, “let’s go tomorrow because I’m starting to get hungry, as for today lets clean this place up a little huh.” Cliff grabbed the flashlight and tried turning it on until he noticed the batteries finally ran out. He said, “okay we can try tomorrow, and the flashlight is out so we have to replace that somehow.”

Kimmie then went to the storage room to try to clean and straighten up. In there she saw a little closet like door and decided to open it. It was a broom closet that kept old cleaning materials, plastic garbage bags, a broom, and a mop which was all inside a beat up bucket. She looked through and singled out a bottle of ammonia and a bottle of bleach. She set the two bottles aside and started to sweep the room with the broom. Cliff came to check on Kimmie when she blurted out, “hey grab those bottles and put them with our stuff!” He responded, “okay I was just about to clean the changing room.” She replied, “no, the bottles are for something special but here take this mop to help you clean”, as she handed him the mop. Cliff then took the bottles back where their clothes were and proceeded to the changing room. He used the mop as a push broom and pushed the dirt and debris into a pile.

Two hours of cleaning and left both satisfied with their work. All the rooms were cleaned out as best as they could. Each room still had a mound of dust, debris and garbage gathered which Kimmie gave Cliff the garbage bags. As he gathered all the trash, ran it upstairs and threw it out, Kimmie started folding their clothes. She called for Cliff and asked, “hey what’s that in the corner of the room?” Cliff came and inspected the area and found an old hot plate behind a rusty mini refrigerator. It was gas powered and looked like it could still work although damaged. Kimmie yelled, “I’m sure that’ll come in use at some point, don’t throw that away!” Cliff responded, “okay but we’re gonna need gas ya know.” She nodded and continued folding clothes as he continued to throw out garbage and debris.

Kimmie made sure to lay out the professional looking clothes out the stolen heap. She laid out a nice dress, heels, and a big fedora styled hat for her. For Cliff she made sure to lay out nice slacks, a button up shirt and a tie. Once they were both settled in their room Kimmie started thinking of a plan. She said, “okay tomorrow we have to blend in while we’re scoping the place out.” She continued, “we could find a smoker outside the hotel and ask for a smoke engaging in a conversation. Then once we can gain access into the hotel simply follow the foot traffic to the main room or ballroom. On the way if an opportunity jumps out we take advantage, but we do it discreetly, you got it?” Cliff shook his head then said, “all that sounds cool as long as I don’t have to talk.” She replied, “that’s fine this time, but you’ll soon get the hang of it, not let’s get some sleep we have to be up early.”

The next morning the two got up and put on the clothes she set out. Kimmie emptied out her bag and took it with her as they went upstairs to leave. Since the hotels were mostly located in the business district they decided to take the street and walk there. The business district was only a few blocks away so the two discussed further plans on the way. While walking Cliff noticed that his clothes smelled, which didn’t help the fact that he hadn’t showered. He grabbed Kimmie’s arm and said, “hey hold up, we stink we can’t go in like this.” Kimmie sniffed her dress and replied, “yeah I see what you mean.” She desperately looked around and noticed a magazine stand on a parallel street. She looked at Cliff and said, “okay I’m gonna go over there first then you follow, then you get the guy’s attention and ill swipe a magazine.” Cliff responded, “so how should I get his attention.” Kimmie chimed in, “just ask if he sales cigarettes or something.” She went over to the booth as the man came from behind it to greet her. She looked around, picked up and opened the magazines checking for cologne or perfume samples. Suddenly Cliff walks up and again the man comes out to greet him Cliff mumbled, “hey how’s it going do you have any cigarettes or cigars.”

As soon as the man turned his back Kimmie quickly stuffed two magazines in her bag then walked off. She rushed across the street and out of site leaving Cliff on his own. The man turned back around with a pack of cigarettes and showed Cliff. Cliff responded, “no not those, are those the only ones you have?” The man nodded yes, and Cliff replied, “okay well never mind, but thank you.” Cliff walked off in the same direction he seen Kimmie run to and caught up with her around the corner. They continued on their way while Kimmie ripped through the pages of the magazine. She grunted, “they gotta have something in that smells good.” She eventually finds a men’s cologne ad and gave the sample to Cliff, then perfume. They rubbed the samples on their necks and wrists first then all over their clothes. She put the magazines back in her bag and continued to the hotel. There were several hotels in about a three block radius, so they had their choice.

The two stumbled upon the Continental Plaza Hotel, which was a medium level hotel mostly known for its meeting rooms. They scoped out the entrance to check the environment to see if they even had a chance. There was only one doorman in sight outside and no security inside, as far as they could see. All of a sudden the two spotted a large group of people in what looked like a smoke break. They pounced and started walking towards the hotel. Kimmie was the first to approach them by saying, “hey can anyone bum a smoke?” Some of the people looked her off while one lady nodded and gave her a cigarette. At that moment Cliff joined Kimmie as she asked, “so which conference are you guys here for, if I may ask.” One of the guys responded, “were all here for the “Entrepreneurship 101” we’re all on a small break before they start, what about you guys?” Kimmie looked at Cliff and nervously said, “well that’s a coincidence so are we, its good we bumped into you guys we’re running a little late.” They all shared a laugh and continued to smoke and engage in small talk amongst themselves. Soon after the group entered the hotel followed by Cliff and Kimmie without any suspicion.

The two continued to follow the group in an elevator but at the same time taking note of their surroundings in case of an escape. Eventually they arrived at a big ballroom that sat around one hundred people comfortably. They blended right in with the group as they nonchalantly walked inside the ballroom. The tables and chairs were all set up to look like a huge classroom. In the back of the room there as a long table with breakfast, refreshments, juice and coffee. They broke away from the group and took turns feeding their faces while fixing themselves a plate. The two chose to sit at the end of one row near the back so they wouldn’t be noticed if they left the room. Haven’t eaten in days the couple quietly ate while the conference started. When they finished, they decided to sit and stay, not to bring any attention to them. They even passed notes back and forth to each other using the notepads and pens that were set on the tables.

When the lunchtime break came Cliff looked at Kimmie and asked, “hey so what do you want to do?” Kimmie slid both of their notepads and pens into her bag and replied, “lets grab so food then we wander around.” They both got up and headed to the adjacent room for lunch moments before other people started rushing there. The two were the first ones to find a table and eat before the same group they met outside joined them. They conversed but hurried up eating and excused themselves from the table. They headed through the door then Kimmie said, “hey let’s take the stairs up a few floors, let’s see what we can get.” On one floor they discovered an abandoned housekeeping cart, so they chose to rummage through it. Kimmie quickly grabbed some towels, hotel soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste and quickly put them in her bag. The next floor they went to had a door that led to the back of the hotel, where they kept most of their work material. Cliff snooped in the back while Kimmie kept watch. He found a boxcutter, butane fluid, and a box of latex gloves as he ran back out and gave it all to Kimmie. As they were walking down to the exit they came across another cart. In there they found miniature bottles of liquor, cookies, nuts and bottles of water. When they tried to leave the hotel, an employee spotted them.

The employee asked, “hey do you guys need help?” Kimmie carefully hide her bag and replied, “no we’re just walking around, we’re on our lunch break.” Right before the employee could leave Kimmie blurted out, “hey do you like working here?” the employee responded, “yeah it’s alright, can’t complain I guess.” Cliff started to walk off when Kimmie continued, “okay well if you get fed up here, we’re hiring at the old paper factory for some construction work.” The employee responded, “okay maybe I will, do you guys have a number?” Kimmie said, “no but if you know where the paper factory is, just come knocking, okay?” The employee nodded and walked off as Kimmie tried to catch up with Cliff. Once together Cliff said, “what was that, why would you bring attention to the spot?” Kimmie laughed and said, “I’m just having a little fun.” Cliff responded, “you mean good fun or bad fun?” Kimmie said, “maybe a little of both, let’s be bad baby.” Cliff grinned from ear to ear and nodded as the two left the hotel with their bag full of goodies.

Appetency

She smells like bad intentions

That constantly gets me in trouble like I had detention

Can you even be attracted to a smell

Most times I’m too distracted to tell

Especially when I’m desperate

Like common sense comes separate

I’m too busy trying to give her that aggressive d before she calls a technical

Because I keep my emotions bottled up for years like a collectible

My eyes, temporarily blind like a newborn puppy

Got me missing blatant red flags like rugby

Senses refuse to pick up her toxicity

Because all I’m focused on is if we got chemistry

Chasing her until I need to hydrate

Or until she’s too familiar with my place

But I can’t just dive in, I’m too shallow

Though I want to be all over that body like her shadow

She keeps playing head games which makes me think different

And she always wins unless she’s bored then she’ll consider it

Unfortunately, when I win I still lose

Even when it is weighing me down like steel shoes

No matter what she’s stuck in my head permanently like gorilla glue

I mean just the thought of her body plays on a continuous loop like a hula hoop

But I let it because getting quenched is a must

Especially after struggling with ongoing battles with lust

Sometimes it’s just too much

Sometimes it’s just a rush

Short Story #1 Chapter Two

The week passed and the two managed to alienate themselves from other residents and staff. One-night Kimmie went to Cliff’s room, which startled him. She whispered, “hey now it’s time to discuss the second part of the plan.” Cliff sat up in his bed and gave Kimmie his full attention. She stated, “so I still have keys to certain areas when I was on cleaning duty, and the laundry room is one of them. I’m thinking tomorrow night we should get in there and jump in the laundry bins as they go out. The people come to pick them up at 3:30am so we have to be in the bins by at least three before security checks them in. “You got all that so far”, she asked. Cliff chimed in, “how many bins are there, and will we fit?” Kimmie responded, “several about five or six and yeah, we should fit the bins a kind of deep and wide. We just pick two out of the five but only go for the ones with towels or sheets it’s easier to move around and they cover well”, she continued.

Cliff had a huge grin on his face and started to smirk as he said, “damn that’s a pretty good plan.” Feeling proud of herself Kimmie responded, “yeah I’ve been thinking about this for some time now, oh and make sure to take your file with you.” Cliff said, “okay will do but what’s gonna happen if the plan is successful, what happens after that?” Kimmie got up and started to pace then replied, “I’m not sure yet, it hasn’t happened yet when that time comes we’ll figure it out.” Cliff doubtfully said, “okay if you say so, one thing at a time I guess.” She smirked at him and said, “what, don’t you believe me?” He remained quiet as she edged closer to the door. She opened the door and said, “it’ll work we just have to be quick on our feet.” She left his room and quickly and quietly ran back to her room.

The next day the two stayed in their rooms most of the day and slept. Later that evening Kimmie got up, grabbed and hid her file then left her room. She managed to stroll to Cliff’s room without security noticing. Once she got in safely they waited seeing how his room was closest to the laundry room. They kept each other up just talking or playing cards for multiple hours. Around 2:30am she stood by the door and kept peeping to see when security wasn’t around. She looked at Cliff and said, “okay it looks clear, I’m gonna act like I’m cleaning then knock on your door when the coast is clear.” As Kimmie walked out the door, Cliff screeched, “okay but then what?” She quickly popped her head in the room and whispered, “just follow me.”

Thirty minutes later Cliff heard the sound of a knock on the door. He got up, grabbed his file and headed towards the door. Slowly he cracked the door to see Kimmie waving to him to come to her. Cliff raced out of the room across the long hallway to meet her. As he got close Kimmie said, “okay we only have one chance to do this so let’s get it right.” Cliff nodded his head while he frantically looked around for security. Kimmie forcefully whispered, “hey focus, let’s go!”, as she took off for the laundry room. Cliff stayed close behind her as the two went into the laundry room undetected. They scrambled around to find the bins with towels or sheets. All the bins were lined up in a single file line so the two split up. All of a sudden Kimmie raised and waved her hands and got Cliff’s attention. He darted over to her to the last two bins, one with towels and the other with sheets.

Cliff blurted out, “so which one are ya taking, ladies first.” Kimmie smiled and pointed to the sheet bin and got right in. Cliff dug a hole through the towels to make room to fit inside. He got in and quickly covered himself with the excess towels. Kimmie did the same thing until she almost hit the bottom of the bin since the sheets were lighter.  The bins had holes at the bottom and on the sides giving the two a way to breathe as they prepared for their unknown trip. They anxiously waited to hear the laundry crew to get going on the truck. Then they suddenly heard a truck backing up and the sounds of someone maneuvering the bins. Each bin gets checked by security then passed off to another worker who puts them on the truck.

One by one the bins get checked then pushed into a large truck. Then the bin with Cliff inside went first to get checked. The security guard looked inside the bin and prodded through the towels and waived it by. Lastly, the bin with Kimmie inside was halted when the bin with Cliff inside struggled to get on the truck. The security guard rushed over to give the two workers a hand with the bin. This made Kimmie more nervous, thinking something went wrong but she stayed in place and tried not to move. The security guard walked back over to the last bin and started to check it. He again looked around and poked around the sheets. He then took his night stick and waved it around in the bin, hitting Kimmie in her stomach. She didn’t make a sound although being slightly winded from the unexpected blow.

The officer passed it through and said, “everything checks out fellas, have a good day!” Kimmie felt the vibrations of the bin getting loaded on the truck as the pain turned into excitement. The laundry workers locked up the truck and pulled out of the facility. The two were engaged on an unknown journey to freedom. While on the truck the two was stacked right next to each other. They tried talking through the holes of the bin but could barely hear each other. When the truck stopped Kimmie yelled out, “hey Cliff can you hear me now!?” Cliff uncovered one of the holes with a towel and responded, “yeah, what a hell of a ride!” Kimmie snapped and said, “hey let’s get it together, remember be smart no time to be playing around!” “We need to focus, the first chance we get we take”, she continued as he put the towel back over the hole.

Minutes later the sound of jiggling keys could be heard and was getting closer to the truck. The doors swung open, and the laundry worker started collecting the bins and moving them into another building. Luckily the laundry worker started with the sheet and towels. One by one the two are wheeled into the building in a room full of industrial washing machines. When the two are left alone, the workers grab more bins leaving a small window for them to escape. Looking through the holes in the bin Kimmie notices that no one was around. She quickly stood up in the bin, uncovered herself and looked around for bearings. She then rushed to the other bin and hit it on the side saying, “okay lets go.” Cliff jumped up and exploded out of the bin and ran over and hid in a darkened corner of the large room with Kimmie right behind.

They crouched in the corner and watched where the worker was coming in and out. The worker would walk out of the building to a dock area where the truck was parked. Kimmie whispered, “okay so we just wait until the worker is finished and the truck pulls off.” Cliff nodded and continued to be the look out. The worker went out for the last bin when he decided to have a smoke. Soon after they heard two people holding a conversation, so they anxiously waited for their moment to escape. After a few minutes passed they could hear the truck starting up as the worker walked back inside with the last cart. Once he lined all the carts up he then left the room through another door. That moment the two decided to make their move and run out of the building. They headed for the hanger door and ran down the dock onto the street.

The two ran and wandered the cold dark streets, trying to stay out of sight throughout the early morning. When the skies started to lighten they stumbled upon an old, dilapidated paper factory. Kimmie stopped and said, “hey let’s stop and duck in here to get some reason and lay low.” Cliff added, “yeah and it would be a good idea to get out of these clothes too.” They went around to the back of the factory for a way inside. They found a back door with a security gate in front of it. When they noticed it wasn’t locked Cliff pulled back the security gate and started ramming the door with his shoulder. Kimmie kept looking out in case somebody spotted them. As the door gave way little by little until Kimmie stopped him and said, “okay let me try to squeeze through. The door caved in at the bottom just enough for Kimmie’s slender physique helped her get inside. Once inside she unlocked the door and let Cliff in as he made sure they were unnoticeable and pulled the security gate back in front of the door.

Several hours passed and the two managed to take a nap in the back corner of the large room. Cliff suddenly woke up to the sound of police sirens in the distance. He ran over to a window looking out onto the street but saw nothing. As the sirens got closer and louder Kimmie jumped up and said, “what the hell is that?” Cliff notices the squad car race down the block, he then reassures Kimmie and said, “nothing, wasn’t for us I think we’re good for now at least.” He continued, “hey what do you want to do today?” Kimmie stretched and replied, “I don’t know, let’s get our bearings and explore this place. You never know this might be home.” Cliff chuckled and blurted out, “yeah of if we need a place to hide.” They began walking around the building to see what they might find.

The many windows that was on all four sides of the building kept it well-lit in the daytime. The top windows were still intact as the lower windows were not so lucky. Inside the building was the main floor that had a corner sectioned off in what looks like an old office. The building was about the size of a major bank headquarters. They walked around and was about to give up when Cliff stumbled across the door. He whistled to get Kimmie’s attention as he yanked and pulled on the door. She ran over and gave him a hand with the door when he got it cracked open. As he pulled she got behind the cracked door and started pushing it. Years of rust made the door almost impossible to open. They managed to open the door enough for them both to get through. Tired, they both took a break before they headed through the door.

They walked through the door to the stairs leading down to what looks like a hallway. One by one they walked down and noticed the long hallway in the basement area of the building. There was a furnace room, a storage room, two bathrooms, a changing room and a break room. It was no electricity to the building but the broken windows providing all the light they needed. They took their time examining each room for leftovers and for what they could use them. Cliff came out of the dressing room with two old pair of uniform pants. Kimmie came out of the furnace room with an old tool bag full of rusting tools and some plastic zip ties. She met Cliff in the hallway and exchanged their findings. Kimmie excitedly said, “cool now we have some clothes, meaning we can leave if we have to.” Cliff laughed, looked at the tools and said, “yeah and I’m sure we can find something to do with these.”

Short Story #1 Chapter One

Hello, all my fellow writers, I hope everyone is healthy, happy and creative especially around the holidays. I’ve been away for a while trying to do something different and challenge myself. With all the crazy and sometimes sane ideas in my head I decided to try my hand at writing short stories. So, the next few posts will be chapters from different short stories I’ve started writing over the past few months and years. I hope you all read, follow along and offer any feedback you have please and thank you.

The first story starts out at New Oasis mental hospital where the two had been admitted. Cliff was an older gentleman in his late 50’s, tall and athletic built, with greying hair. Cliff Jorden had a history of psychotic behavior due to a 10-year stint in the army. Often bothered by PTSD and war flashbacks. When he returned home from the army, he didn’t want to leave his apartment for weeks. When his best friend of 7 years tried to visit him, it turned violent. On that day, police responded to what seemed to be a normal domestic dispute. When the police arrived at the scene, they noticed Cliff sitting on the sidewalk just rocking back and forth. When asked what happened he just kept shaking his head. In his apartment they noticed his friend was unresponsive with what looked like a broken neck.

Kim Watts was much younger in her mid-30’s, slender build with long model like legs. Nicknamed Kimmie, she struggled with having multiple personalities. Her dad admitted her after noticing her problems in her early 20’s. In her case her problems were hereditary from her mom. Her mother always declined help or treatment. When Kimmie was fourteen her mom committed suicide, which took a mental toll on her. She found her mom in the bathtub with both her wrists slit. She never thought to call police, she just hid down in the basement. After several hours passed Kimmie’s dad and the police found her balled up in a dark corner. As she got older, she ran through a slew of doctors ranging from shrinks to neurologists. She often stopped going and refused help. One day her father was driving around the old neighborhood and spotted her walking around aimlessly talking to herself. Fed up with her progress her father admitted her a few days later. The two were admitted a week after each other.

In that week apart cliff managed to try to escape several times. The hospital ended up having a staff member constantly watching his every move. Kimmie’s first couple of weeks were rough as well. Not only did she try to escape, but she also tried taking her own life. One day she was frustrated that she couldn’t escape and was quiet and antisocial. The first week was challenging for the staff members as they shadowed the two. They tried to keep the two away from the other patients for their safety. The only times the two left their rooms were to go to the cafeteria and an hour of outside time. The two often seen each other passing through the halls, and noticed they were only patients with personal staff members.

A month passed with no incidents from either party. The two were cautiously introduced to the hospital’s social group. This is where the patients all gather in the rec room and talk about problems three days out the week. In the social group the two kept their distance. Kimmie sat in one corner of the room and Cliff was in another. The two kept up this antisocial behavior for a week. Eventually they were given an ultimatum to either participate or no break time for a week. One day in social group the staff member asked if anybody wanted to say anything, Cliff and Kimmie looked around the room then locked eyes. Suddenly Kimmie stood, spoke up first and said, “Hi everybody my name is Kimmie.” The staff member smiled as the rest of the group addressed her. When she sat down the room shifted to Cliff. He was hesitant at first but was subtly reminded of the consequences. He was hesitant and stubborn at first as the group continued with class. By the end of the class, he introduced himself from his corner. The staff member asked for any ending remarks, cliff forcibly shouted, “hey my name is cliff.” The rest of the group responded while Kimmie just smirked at him.

When the group ended the staff, member called both of them to see him. He praised them for participating and informed them that some of the staff are leaving. He also told them that because of that they will be moved in the same section of the hospital. This means that the two had to share a personal staff member. The next day Cliff decided to stroll around the hospital at 2 am as he normally does. This time Kimmie bumped into him and asked, “hey Cliff why are you in here?” He smiled then answered, “well they say I have psychotic behavior brought on by my PTSD.” He continued, “sounds kind of cool I guess, what about you?” Kimmie laughed and replied, “yeah sounds cool, I have multiple personalities they say and I’m severely depressed.” Cliff smirked then laughed. They spent that morning as well as the rest of the day getting to know each other. The next few weeks the two grew fond of each other after that day and even started talking and hanging around. In the hospital hallways, the cafeteria, and in social group these two were inseparable.

As their bond grew, the two started becoming comfortable with their routine. They began to open up more in group, participated more, and even chose to help out around the hospital. The two started to feel safe, which wasn’t as good as it first seemed. Since there was less hospital staff the two were able to get away with little things here and there. One day Kimmie met up with Cliff in the laundry room to help fold sheets. Cliff smiled and said, “are you here to help or talk?” Kimmie first shrugged her shoulders then smirked and started helping. While folding she blurted out, “aren’t you tired of this place by now, I mean it’s been what like about six months now?” Cliff stopped and replied, “what do you think, of course I’m sick of this place but where are we gonna go?” She started shaking her head and said, “that’s not what I’m worried about, how are we gonna get outta here?” She continued, “I’m gonna work on a way to get outta here, are you down?” Cliff started folding again and said, “of course I’m down.” Kimmie finished folding then nodded and left the room. The two planned on getting married in Vegas as soon as they broke out.

Another month passed with the two on their best behavior, which really impressed all of the staff. Eventually the hospital decided that they didn’t need a staff member appointed to them. This gave the couple even more freedom, which was apparent to Kimmie’s plan. One early morning Kimmie went to cliff’s room and frantically woke him up with important news. “What the hell, who?”, Cliff confusedly grumbled. Kimmie whispering responded, “calm down it’s just me, sorry for abruptly waking you, but my plan is almost ready to go!” Cliff replied, “ok what time is it?” Kimmie checked the clock in the halls and said, “its 3:27 am, so let’s go.” Cliff just nodded and slowly got out of bed. They raced down the hall to the staff main office where all the key cards, files, and walkie talkies were stored. There was an overnight security wandering around but told him that they were just doing early morning cleaning. The security guard didn’t think much of it given their good reputation. Once the two were finally inside Kimmie looked around for the files and stuff while cliff acted like he was cleaning. She carefully looked through all the cabinets and drawers she could see. When she finally discovered the radios and key cards, put everything back meticulously like nothing was ever touched. Cliff got her attention and pointed to a locked storage locker where the patient files are probably stored.

Frustrated Kimmie started looking for anything that resembled a key like somebody possessed. She eventually ran across a cabinet underneath the main desk in the office. Cliff whispered, “just take ’em and let’s get the hell out of here!” She shushed him and replied, “it’s only two sets of keys if I take one, they’ll know something!” She quickly grabbed a set and ran over to the locked file cabinet. She fumbled with the lock as she nervously tried to open it repeatedly. With cliff rushing her she almost gave up, then all of a sudden, they heard it unlock. She carefully looked through the files for her and Cliff’s. She found her file first then desperately looked for Cliff’s when He blurted out, “I think I hear someone coming please hurry up!” She angerly asked, “what’s your damn last name again?!”

Cliff answered, “its Jorden!” As the sound of jingling keys got closer, Cliff noticed the shadow of an overnight guard. He started to act like he’s cleaning around the door as he snaps his fingers at her. Kimmie was trying to be careful and not rush because she knew that someone would notice so she took her time. One by one she flipped through at least two hundred files.

When the doorknob starts turning and keys entering the lock, both of them paused. Cliff looked at Kimmie and mimed her to hurry up and he got on his hands and knees in front of the door. Kimmie started to rush and finally found the file and put them both behind her back and in her waistband. She quietly closed the door back and put the keys where she found them. The door opened but only a crack as Cliff was keeping it closed with his feet. Kimmie hurried and got out her towel and started cleaning again. Cliff replied as the door slammed into in feet a second time, “Hold on sorry!” Cliff got up as the door swung open. The security guard asked the two, “hey what are you too doing in here?” Kimmie answered, “we were put on the overnight schedule to clean the offices.” The security guard replied back, “oh okay well make sure you keep the doors open at all times.” The two nodded their heads and finished as the security guard left the office.

The two quickly turned off the light, closed the door and ran back to Cliff’s room. Once they were safely inside, Kimmie took the files out of her waistband. She gave Cliff his file and said, “now hide that in a safe place, its only part of the plan.” Cliff nodded and replied, “so it this a good time to let me know what the plan is?” Kimmie responded, “I’ll tell you in due time, meanwhile over the coming week stay in your room more act antisocial.” She saw the confused look on Cliff’s face and continued, “the less these people see and interact with us the better chances of escaping.” Cliff smiled and nodded then started ripping up a section in his mattress to hide the file. Kimmie ran down the hall back to her room and did the same with her mattress. The following week the two stayed true to their plan and rarely came out of their room. The only times the two would be seen was for lunch and when the two visited each other.

Random Thought

I ask myself, would life be better if I had the opportunity to change it

Before I can answer I need to get it in order, it still needs rearranging

Out with the old, in with the new like a revolving door

The way I adapt to every obstacle proves I’m evolving more

Although some signs were missed or ignored

I feel like I been on the bench so far because I haven’t got an assist or scored

The older I’m getting the slower I’m getting to chasing my goals

But I’ve been tip toeing around like I’m walking on hot coals

Being unsure and uncertain is uncomfortable

Been heated and depleted of energy like I had a summer flu

I used to be a loner, but now I’m just all alone

I used to detect dreams like sonar but now I mostly atone

All the negativity that holds me back

Because I’m still constantly searching for what I was told I lack

Struggling trying not to expose my flaws

Been living in a house of doubt, looking explode some walls

With pity being the furniture as a matter of fact

But now it’s all in jeopardy like pat sajak

Need help, like someone please take the wheel but still utter instruction

I guess there’s more work to be done like my life under construction

Little White Lies

Okay beautiful let me start off by being true to you

Truth is I’m feeling you, down to your chewed up cuticle

I’m lying

I like your thick figure, but I don’t discriminate against body size

Truthfully, I didn’t notice your thighs first, I was more attracted to your eyes

I’m lying

I swear I’m not running game

I mean I’m getting tired of the chase, settling down is my aim

I’m lying

I promise I’m not in the business of wasting time

I want to be able to outline your life because I’m tired of tracing mine

I’m lying

I don’t do drama so I’m not trying to have you cry a day

I just want to swell your head with so many compliments you’d fly away

I’m lying

I’m not a dog although you can see my canines

Boundaries are damn near invisible to me like gray lines

I’m lying

I’m an open book with a few good stories

No negativity or bad vibes so no worries

I’m lying

Not an emotional person but they’re available

And I may have put up some walls, but I promise they’re scalable

I’m lying

The only baggage I’m holding can fit in a knapsack

But I swear I left all that in my past and I’m not trying to backtrack

I’m lying

Now normally I’m one of the good guys

Unless I’m really desperate then I might tell a few white lies

Daily writing prompt
If you were going to open up a shop, what would you sell?

Well, I have a couple ideas on this subject. One would be an organic smoothie shop with organic snacks and foods, vegan friendly of course. The other would be a classic bakery that sells everything you could think of sweet. And maybe some of those sweets are infused with cannabis.

Autumn

Familiar changes that I can’t doubt, not even if I tried

Only looking for the perfect vibe

Which is imaginary because I can’t even describe

I guess for now that part of me is all washed up like the tide

So like time, let me fall back

When the temperature change, I’m more temperamental

Because my heart is what I use to vent through

I’m more vulnerable so I’m more experimental

Trying new ways to be alone no matter who I’m kin to

Again, like time, let me fall back

Shorter nights mean I’m team no sleep

I can’t remember my dreams because they’re not so deep

Seems like everything is out of reach like really steep

But who knows maybe this year I’ll take the leap

Until then I tell myself, you can’t replace time you lost all you can do is fall back
